Territorial Structures

The Frontline of Port Safety. The Guilds provide pilotage services through participating Harbour Pilots.

The Organisation

What Are the Guilds?

Harbour Pilots are organised into Guilds, currently 32, operating in Italian ports where pilotage is mandatory, as established by specific ministerial decrees. The Guilds provide pilotage services through participating Harbor Pilots. They serve as the frontline of port safety and, through their pilots, act as the first point of contact between a vessel and the shore.

What They Do

The Guilds are public entities with legal personality, established by Presidential Decree (D.P.R.). They fall within the framework of indirect administration of maritime navigation and serve a public interest purpose: ensuring navigation safety. The Guild provides a public service, carried out by Pilots 24/7, 365 days a year, in all weather conditions.
